    For auction:
From Henry Woodhouse Archive, 1910's photo of famous Italian aviator,
    Attilio Baldioli,
likely next to a World War I Italian Pomilio scout battle plane, w/period writing on reverse. He is still celebrated in Italy. He also had much record-breaking success in the US.
Period writing on reverse in Italian regarding the arrival of Pilota Attilio Baldioli.
If you google, "Attilio Baldioli, aviazione Italia" many sites will come up about him. They still have celebrations about his achievements in Italy, and there are articles about this.
In the New York Times Index Volume 5 from 1917, it lists record after record that Baldioli broke up and down the eastern coast of the United States, seaplane record, etc.
From wiki (in Italian): "Attilio Baldioli was a record breaking aviator, both in Italy and the US. When the Pomilio brothers of Fabbrica Aeroplani Ing. O. Pomilio, relocated to the US, their aeroplanes were already being used in the US.
They participated in the awareness campaign for voluntary recruitment, held on American soil by the Allied Forces, with various parades and military-sporting demonstrations. In one of these exhibitions, held by the Italian Air Force in October 1917, some pilots on Pomilio planes performed a series of stunts in the skies of Langley, thrilling a very large crowd and, to crown the success, pilot sergeant Attilio Baldioli made the flight direct Langley - New York, over the distance of 540 km in less than three hours, achieving an hourly average of 190,400 km / h. The test, carried out with a prototype of the "PE" type reconnaissance aircraft, was followed by Captain L.B. Lent of the Signal Corps, boarded as an observer officer. The crew was expected in the landing field by the highest military authorities and the US newspapers gave an exceptional prominence to the enterprise, thus giving Pomilio great notoriety and technical prestige in American land."
    From the website: https://www.ww1-planes.com/Italy/Pomilio.php:
"Fabbrica Aeroplani Ing. O. Pomilio was founded by the Polilio brothers in 1916, became the main supplier for reconnaissance planes, their various models equipped about 30 squadrons of the Italian Air Force. They also built versatile bomber/reconnaissance planes in association with Savoia. But in 1918, they sold their company to Ansaldo, that acquired their assets, and emigrated to the USA."
