For sale,
a cool 374 lb Bavarian pattern anvil made by Holthaus.
One of the most distinct anvil patterns, it has a broad ‘chest’ above church windows and a central pillar. The most convincing theory regarding the chest is that it is a buttress for the face, adding a diagonal component for the kinetic energy. It is not hardened but could be used as a secondary face for non-ferrous metals, just as the church windows could be used as swages.
This is a fully forged anvil, forgewelded out of at least 8 pieces, which is remarkable.
The rebound is excellent and the Holthaus maker mark is clear. Very cool anvil.
