Description
Extremely beautiful and rare Edwardian 1910's pink silk party dress. Antique gowns this old are very hard to come by in this condition, let alone in this vibrant color.Dress has a sequin band/trim at the top of the dress, a ruched chiffon bodice, bows at the top of each shoulder, metal like lame flowers that decorate the skirt hem (two at the front, two at the back), and a lovely lace underskirt.
The back of this dress is so dreamy--it has two large dagger tails and a bow that snaps at the waist in the back. It reminds me of a dress Olive Thomas wore in, "The Flapper," 1920. Very high fashion!
Dress has a small pickup on the left hip and fastens with a series of snap and hook and eye closures (7 going down from the top until the waist, then five hook and eye closures from the waist down) at the back. Entire dress is lined on the inside with the lace fabric.
I do know the history of the dress--it originally belonged to a woman who lived in Portsmouth New Hampshire. Great provenance!
This dress is in incredible condition for it's age. There is a small fray/tear on the front of the dress at towards the bottom of the v-neckline. There is a small hole on the ruched chiffon on the back, and a faint stain/mark on the left side of the skirt near the bottom. The lame/metal flowers are showing a bit of wear due to age. There also seems to be a snag line on the right side of the dress, as well as some slight snagging towards the bottom of the skirt on the back side. I also noticed a stain that appears to be created by the garment being folded for many years. It's very thin and long, the shape of a fold mark. See photos. Ebay only allows 12 photos so message me if you'd like to see more of the damage.
Measurements:
Underarm to underarm: 32"
Bust: 30" (The bust is roomy so you could probably fit an extra inch or two, as was the style of the day. The seller I bought this from had this listed as a 34"-35" bust, but that's not what I got and seems a bit of a stretch...maybe if you have small shoulders?)
Empire waist: 25"
Hips: 42"
Length: 51"
Bodice Length: 13"
***Dress was too small for my mannequin, as it wouldn't close in the back. I still included a photo of the from of the dress on the dress form to show how it would look on. My dress form measures 33", 23", 33".
Dress is extremely fragile and should be worn/handled with care.
