Description
This is a beautiful floral printed cotton lawn dress from the 1930s. It is a rather close fitting dress flared at the bottom with layers of ruffles. The dress has diamond shaped insets at center front and side back showing the Art Deco influence of the era. It has a wide self fabric sash, a low back with fold back sides edged with wide lace ruffles that extend across the front neckline. There are yards of ruffled lace and fabric at the hem. Two long inset drapes of fabric in the back form a train.
The fabric is a soft cotton lawn-hand dyed and printed with poppies in shades of pink and coral. At the ruffle sides are large pink silk bows, center front a huge silk velvet and organza poppy and smaller velvet poppies anchoring the two folded back openings. There are clusters of narrow silk ribbons at center back and on each side of the front neckline.
Due to the nature of hand dyed fabric there are shade variations - one spot barely noticeable in the front diamond inset and some on the back train but lost in the folds. The dress is clean - professionally laundered and pressed. I find no other condition issues: seams tight, fabric sturdy, no holes or worn areas. The dress closes in back under the lace and sash bow with snaps and one hook and eye.
Actual measurements are: Bust: 38", Waist: 32", Hips: 36", Back Length from Top of Shoulders to Hem: 54". The train adds an additional 10" beyond the hem.
A lovely and quite wearable dress from the Flapper era.
