This is a beautiful pair of extremely unusual fossil fish. They are Peipiaosteus sp. (Sturgeon) from the ''feathered dinosaur'' site of China. When it was first discovered, this type was thought to be a fossil shark, but further research found it to be a fossil sturgeon. These rare fish are beautifully displayed, and the detail of both fish is just wonderful. The skulls of the fish are easily seen, the fins are clearly defined, and the tails are easily seen - even the scales/skin of the fish are preserved! The primitive fossils have gorgeous color and contrast and are well showcased on the large, squared block of matrix. This is a very collectible double specimen of this unusual fossil sturgeon from China.
