Aphanius crassicaudus
(Agassiz 1839), from the Miocene, Congeria beds (Upper Messinian) of Cunero, Tuscany, Italy.
With dorsal, ventral and tail fins intact, and with the vertebral column and ribs in fine detail, this specimen also preserves the stout spines that no doubt protected this small fish from its many predators..........
