    Description

    Welcome to Pioneer Fossils!
A Certificate of Authenticity, which has a photo on it of the exact specimen you purchased. will accompany the specimen.  Plus a free display stand.
Here is gorgeous natural fish plate from the world-famous fossil beds of Fossil Lake, Green River Formation, Wyoming. From the Eocene, 52 million years ago.
There is a Cockerellites on the left, and a Knightia on the right. The Cockerellites is about 4.6", and the Knightia is about 5.2".  There is a bit of professional touch-up for a better presentation.
Both the Cockerellites and the Knightia have the very sought-after trait of having their fins sticking out, rather than laying near the side of the fish.  The fins on each are incredibly beautiful, largely because of this.
The edge of the plate has been "scalloped", and is about 11.5" by 9.5" (varies). I like to call it the "Flintstone look", which I guess shows how long I have been around.
The plate is rather thin, at about 6 mm., but it will hold up for many, many years on the display stand.  I would keep it out of the hands of children.
A very nice and picturesque fossil fish plate!

We are happy to enclose a COA (Certificate of Authenticity) from Pioneer Fossils.  Some words of caution about COA’s: Do not let them become a substitute for learning about the specimens. We have been working with fossils and minerals for many years, and we have seen hundreds of very nice-looking COA’s, some that are wrong, mis-describing a specimen.
Also, a COA, without a photo of the exact specimen on the COA itself,  is worthless, as it can later be placed next to any other fossil or mineral.  100% of our COA’s include a photo of the exact item you purchased, right on the COA itself, so it can’t ever be placed with a wrong item.
