    This is a well-preserved fossil fish,
    Diplomystus dentatus,
    from the famous Green River Formation of Fossil Lake, near Kemmerer, Wyoming. It dates from the Eocene, 50 million years ago.
    This fish measures 3.88 inches long and 1.2 inches wide, at its widest. The entire specimen is in a matrix of calcite from the gastropod layer, which is above the famous18 inch layer . The plate measures 4.99 inches long by 3.22 inches wide by 0.44 inches thick. The fossil has been preserved professionally. The fish has been stabilized and color enhanced.
