    Description

This is a well-preserved fossil fish,
    Phareodus encaustus
    , with a deformed
    Mioplosus
(looks like an eel on the plate ) from the Gastropod layer, which is found above the famous 18 inch layer of Green River Formation near Kemmerer, Wyoming.
    This
    Phareodus
is extremely well-preseved with skin, bones and TEETH intact.  The fish is 7.5 inches long. The teeth of the
    Mioplosus
are also well-preserved (see pics.). There is a Gastropod embedded in the fin of the Phareodus. The entire specimen is in a matrix of of calcite from the gastropod layer which is above the famous 18 inch layer. The plate measures 9.5 inches long by 7.6 inches wide by 0.55 inches thick. The fossils have been preserved professionally. The fish have been stabilized and color enhanced.
