Matchlessantiques offers collectors and smiths this Healthy 137 lb. Hay Budden Blacksmith Anvil. This anvil has seen some work, but still has plenty of life left and the famous Hay Budden quality. The trademark is deep and reads "HAY BUDDEN, MANUFACTURING CO., BROOKLYN, N.Y." and "137" for the weight. The serial numbers are on the front foot and read "88615" which means this anvil was made in 1903. Some notable mentions are the nice tall feet that adds to the look, the flat clean face, a thick faceplate and a fantastic rebound. Please take a close look at the pictures. According to Richard Postman's book "Anvils in America" this Solid Wrought Iron anvil was the first style anvil they made and is considered the most attractive style produced. It has a shorter waist and doesn't look as top heavy as later styles. This anvil was made from the best American Wrought Iron and faced with the best Crucible Cast Steel plate. Postman's book also states that Hay Buddens were considered the best American made anvil. Hay Budden claims they used the best material available and were produced by the finest American craftsmen. It is still considered the Rolls Royce of blacksmith anvils and is one of the most sought after anvils today.
