Fossil Fish. Vinctifer Comptoni Fossil Fish from the Santana formation in Brazil. Approximately 165 million years old, 22 inches long X 4 inches wide X 1 inch thick, with both halves, the positive (the actual fish) and the negative impression. Heavy. Most are found with only 1 half since these are hard to mine them intact. Brazil has since restricted the export of these particular fossils since they are rare to begin with and therefore they are becoming even more rare on the open market. This specimen was acquired in the late 60s. There is some repair and stabilizer as it typical on these fossils. This specimen is a beautiful example for the serious collector, museum, or for interior decorators. The scales are very primitive looking as would be expected for 165 million years old. Only 1 out of 100 are this nice, and they are all rare. Most are smaller in size. Thousands of tons of rock must be mined to find anything this nice. Great coffee table item, or office shelf, or living room. Always gets looks and questions. Not seafood. lol. Will be double boxed and fully insured. Shipping only to continental USA.
